Changemaker of the Week: Francis Asiku
What happens when a nurse swaps medicine for mangoes?
Meet Francis Asiku, a compassionate nurse from northern Uganda who had a powerful realization: his patients weren’t just sick, they were hungry. One day, after treating a severely malnourished child, Francis noticed mangoes rotting on the ground while birds feasted. That moment sparked a question that changed everything:

This is an albino koala spotted in Queensland, Australia and yes, she’s real. 🐨
Albino koalas are extremely rare, with only a few ever recorded in the wild. Their lack of melanin gives them white fur, pink noses, and light-sensitive eyes. It also makes them more vulnerable to sun exposure and predators.
And yet… here she is. Alive. Resilient. A reminder from nature that being different is not a weakness…
✨Just like her, your uniqueness is your strength. You don’t need to blend in to belong.

Spark of Inspiration:

In a hospital in Calais, France, something beautiful happens every week. A 15-year-old horse named Peyo quietly walks through the halls, visiting patients in palliative care. Once a show horse, Peyo now brings comfort to people in their final days of life. 🐴

He’s not just any therapy animal. Peyo has a gift.

Without being told, he stops outside certain rooms and gently lifts one leg. It’s his way of telling his trainer, Hassen, that someone inside needs support. When he enters, he stays close to the patient, calm and still. Some people hold onto his mane. Others simply lean on him in silence. Sometimes, he stays for hours.

Years ago, Hassen noticed that Peyo would walk toward people who were sick or upset. What seemed unusual at first soon became a calling. Together, they started visiting hospitals, especially to support those facing the end of life.

Since 2016, Peyo has become a regular guest at the hospital. Families, nurses, and doctors say his presence brings peace when words are not enough. Some patients even need less pain medication after spending time with him. He helps people feel calm, seen, and less alone.  💛
